Tool Certification Information
Prior to beginning the tool certification process, students and parents/guardians must read the "Safety Contract" specific to the Maker Space (see document to the right). Students must then obtain parent/guardian permission and both the student and parent/guardian must digitally sign the Safety Contract. This form can be found on the "Forms" tab on this weebly page: http://jmckeonasuprep.weebly.com/safety-contract.htm

All students wishing to work in the maker space will receive a Tool Certification Card from a teacher. See below for images of the card. This card will be their record of all certification achieved. Certification cards should be kept in the Maker Space. If a card is lost, students will have to redo all certification. If at any time a school staff member feels that a student is not behaving responsibly, professionally, or safely, their tool certification may be revoked.
In order to be certified on any tool, students must research information on each tool and then pass a written test with a score of 80% or higher. The tests include information on safe usage of the tool, proper PPE, what materials should be used, etc.
